The Bay Psalm Book was the first printed book in North America. It was the Book of Psalms as translated and then printed by the Puritans in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1640.

It holds the record for the highest auction price for a printed book ever, "sold for $14.2 million to American philanthropist David M. Rubenstein in 2013."[1]

Only 11 copies are known to exist today.

The fifth-highest record price for the sale of any book (not printed) was the $30,802,500 paid by Bill Gates for the leather-bound notebook of scientific writings by Leonardo da Vinci, known as the Codex Leicester (or sometimes the Codex Hammer). That auction was on November 11, 1994 in New York City, at Christie's.
