Birmingham City Council (BCC) is the unitary authority responsible for the areas of Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Staffordshire that make up the city and administrative county Birmingham. From 1974 to 1986, the council area was a metropolitan borough within the two-tier council area of West Midlands County Council. After that local authority was abolished, BCC became responsible for all local government functions within its council area. Birmingham City Council forms part of the county for the purposes of lieutenancy West Midlands, as well as the like-named but much larger statistical region.
