Bolton, England
Bolton is a town in Lancashire, England, approximately ten miles north-west of Manchester city centre.The River Croal flows through the town.
Since 1986, Bolton has been administered by Bolton Council (formerly Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council), which since 2011 has formed a part of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
Bolton Railway Station is a served by long-distance trains passing through Manchester and various local services. The A666 road connects the town with the M60 and M61 motorways.
Historically cotton-spinning and the manufacture of textiles were important to the town’s economy.
British Aerospace have facilities in Lostock, near Bolton. Tourism, IT and general manufacturing are also significant employers.
Bolton Wanderers Football Club play in the English Premiership (soccer).
Its population is 139,400 (2001).
