Brat Pack

The Brat Pack was a press created grouping of young actors and actresses from the early and mid 1980's. It was a condescending putdown as a play on the old Rat Pack with Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. The members of the Brat Pack were never quite clear and would vary with which writer was drawing the reference. Loosely, it was based on the young stars of The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo's Fire. The idea was that they traveled in packs together to different hangouts. In reality they had only infrequently spent time together socially, and almost completely cut all social activities together once the "Brat Pack" label was created. It was never a title any of the so-called members acknowledged or talked about in dealing with the public. That still didn't stop the press which used the term for many years afterwards.
