Breakcore (from breakbeat and hardcore) is a genre of modern music with roots in breakbeat, IDM, jungle and gabber. Breakcore is defined by its extreme, broken-beat sound and tempos in excess of 200 beats per minute. This is usually created by digitally slicing up drum loops and arranging them intricately inside computer programs, along with samples of various songs or instruments. Popular artists include Venetian Snares, Alec Empire, Bong-Ra, DJ Scud and dev/null.
