The Breaking Wheel, commonly known as the Catherine Wheel due to the legend of Catherine of Alexandria, in which the wheel shattered at her touch is an execution device used in the Middle Ages, it was considered brutal and was replaced by more humane execution methods.

Punishment

The person who is going to be executed will be placed down, and most likely will have the wheel dropped on top of them, breaking bones and trying to kill the person.
