Budyonnovsk is a town in Stavropol Krai, Russia.

On June 14, 1995, a group of terrorists led by Shamil Basayev attacked the city. They herded more than 1,500 residents into the city hospital and, using the hostages as human shields, entered into a fierce battle with the special forces. Only after six days of negotiations did the militants leave Budyonnovsk with some of the hostages, who were later released. The terrorists themselves disappeared.

By the summer of 2005, 30 participants and organizers of the terrorist attack were eliminated during the counter-terrorist operation. Basayev was eliminated in 2006. Many participants in the terrorist attack were detained and sentenced to long prison terms.
