Burevestnik
Burevestnik (Bur-ev-est-nik - Storm Petrel or Storm Bringer) (GRAU index - 9M730, NATO reporting name - SSC-X-9 Skyfall) is a nuclear power cruise missile developed by the Russian Federation with virtually unlimited range.
On October 25, 2024 Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Gen. Valery Gerasimov announced testing had been completed on October 21, 2025. The Burevestik traveled 14,000 kilometers for 15 hours and could have kept travelling further at about Mach 8.5 or 9. Military Watch Magazine asserted that Burevestnik could "lurk in the sky for years" before striking unpredictably.
Because of Burevestik's ability to change course and go around radar detection systems, Burevestik makes the proposed $175 Billion Golden Dome missile defense program, as envisioned in the spring of 2025,[1] obsolete before it even makes it off the drawing board.[2]
Technological breakthrough
Burestevnik is powered by a compact onboard nuclear reactor rather than liquid or solid fuel. The Russians have figured out how to keep the reactor cool. The breakthrough technology could be applied to aircraft or rockets in outer space.
