C. C. Beck (byname of Charles Clarence Beck, 1910-1989), American cartoonist and comic book illustrator, best known for creating the character of "Captain Marvel" for Fawcett Publications in 1939, a superhero who's similarities to D.C. Comics' Superman led to a long court battle, resulting in the loss of Fawcett's comics division and the rights to Captain Marvel transferred to D.C.
