CFC- Youth for Christ
CFC- Youth for Christ (YFC/CFC-YFC) is a Catholic Youth Movement started by Couples for Christ in Manila, Philippines in 1993 and later in more than 160 Countries.[1] Although it approaches other Christian denomination, it practices majorly Catholicism.[2]
Background
CFC- Youth for Christ is also known as "CFC-Youth" in the United States to give courtesy to the existing Protestant Organization also named "Youth For Christ International" (YFCI) an evangelical movement founded by Billy Graham and Charles Templeton. [3]
In 1981, Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon started Young Adults Program (YA) as a pilot program to evangelize young people, in Laguna. YA is a limited program since CFC was only an outreach of LNP. YA's limited program continued until 1993, when CFC separated from LNP, with the formation of the Family Ministries. YA was replaced by "CFC- Youth for Christ".
YFC hold its first National Leaders conference in 1994 at Antipolo City in Rizal which was part of Metro Manila to introduce the structure of YFC.
In 1995, YFC held a youth camp in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City, in Metro Manila. YFC spread all over the Philippines in tandem with CFC's expansion and intensifying its work with the poor together with Gawad Kalinga.[4]
Membership
Youth for Christ aims to evangelize youth from ages thirteen (13) to twenty one (21) years old. The ministry molds a generation of young, passionate, convicted and Christ-centered young people, reaching out to them in every community, campus and school. YFC develops strategies in evangelization and establishes a programs relevant to changing times, meant to deepen the youth's relationship with the bigger Church.[5]
5 Major Programs
- Community Based is a widest program of YFC; where it approaches the youth within Villages, Communities, Parishes, and Dioceses. This program involves in community service and Church's activities.
- Campus Based approaches the college campuses' students to teach "Christian Values". It is also acknowledged by school as one of College clubs existing to give social and spiritual guidance among student organizations.
- High School Based is a CFC- Youth for Christ program that specially aims to evangelize the Youth in High School level.
- TORCH (Towards Renewal in Christ) is a support program of Youth for Christ and serves as an identity membership of the children of Mission Core Group (MCG) Members. These Children are being prepared and motivated to share the Torch of Leadership that lighted the path of their parents to continue the mission, as it is handed down from their parent's generation to theirs.
- ROCK (Reaching Out Christ To Kids) is a program that concentrates to teach Christian Values to Kids by the ministry of Kids for Christ.
