Catalans Dragons
Contents
History
The club was formed in 2000 as Union Treiziste Catalane following the merger of the famous XIII Catalan and St. Estève clubs.[3] When they were selected to join the Super League in 2006 in an attempt to expand the competition into France, the club adopted the name Catalans Dragons but continued to play in the French Championship under their older name, which is often abbreviated to UTC. Unlike the British clubs involved in the Super League, the Catalans were given an exemption from relegation for three years in order to establish themselves.
In 2007, the Dragons became the first non-English side to reach the final of the Rugby League Challenge Cup but lost to St. Helens RFC at Wembley Stadium on August 25, 2007.
Their home ground is the "Stade Gilbert Brutus" and has a capacity of 12,000.
