The Cistercian Order is a strict Christian religious order which was established in 1086 and continues to the present day. The order requires silence and vegetarianism, as well as giving up all of one's possessions. The Cistercians spread Christianity and western farming knowledge to Eastern Europe and often hosted retreats for citizens to participate in a week or weekend of learning and prayer.
