A clam is a bivalve mollusc, being two shells divided into two pieces.

Clams are regularly fished for food in both saltwater and freshwater environments. They can be eaten raw or cooked, and can provide an excellent source of protein. Shellfish is forbidden in the Kosher diet as stated in Leviticus 11:9-12.
