Clonezilla is a free, open source partition and hard disk (HDD)/SSD imaging program. It allows individuals and companies to make complete disk images of individual computers or a large quantity of servers, depending on the kind of software selected. These images are useful for a variety of purposes. The most common uses are backups in case of failure and deployment of identical systems across multiple devices, such as when a server cluster is being created.[1] Clonezilla was developed by the National Center for High-Performance Computing software labs in Taiwan.[2]

Features

  • Supports many drive formats:
    • GNU/Linux:ext2, ext3, ext4, reiserfs, reiser4, xfs, jfs, btrfs, f2fs and nilfs2[1]
    • Windows: FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS[1]
    • Mac OS: HFS+[1]
    • UFS of FreeBSD, NetBSD, and OpenBSD[1]
    • Minix: minix[1]
    • VMWare ESX: VMFS3 and VMFS5[1]
  • An "unattended mode" is offered in which most steps can be completed using command-line commands and switches at startup.[1]
  • Only saves used memory blocks on the drive/partition[3]
  • AES-256 encryption is available for data access, storage, and transfer.[1]

Requirements

  • X86 or x86-64 processor[1]
  • 196 MB of RAM[1]
  • A boot device, such as a CD/DVD Drive, USB port, PXE, or hard drive[1]
  • A partition to write to or read from
