Cochome is likely derived from the Greek Κόχουμη or Κόχουμης.
Early translators have used this to refer to the Egyptian region around Saqqara and Heliopolis; a region where the earliest Egyptian pyramids are. Scholars now agree that Cochome is a corrupted form of "Cochome-Memphis" meaning "near Memphis".
Historical Uses
Manetho claimed that "[Pharoh Venephes] raised the pyramids near Cochome."[1] This is where the Step Pyramid of Saqqara is; which is noted as the oldest colossal stone structure in Egypt but what is being refered or attributed to is questionable.
