Columbus Day is an annual federal holiday on the second Monday of October in the United States, in honor of Christopher Columbus.

In recent years this holiday has become increasingly under attack by liberal groups who claim Columbus' actions destroyed indigenous culture; as such it is commonly been renamed Indigenous Peoples' Day in liberal jurisdictions. Interestingly, it is the only Federal holiday which is not also a state holiday in conservative Texas.
