An article, as part of an encyclopedia, tells the reader about a topic. It may cover an entire topic - and thus be comprehensive. It may, for the reader's convenience, be limited to a single aspect of the topic. Some articles are compendiums which treat several topics together, to show the relationships among them. At Wikipedia, this is called a "portal" article. One major difference between an article and a blog entry is that the author's personal opinions are downplayed in an article, in favor of known facts. An encyclopedia author distills the wisdom of the ages and the well-founded recent findings (discoveries) of modern times - and places it all in front of the readers, to satisfy their thirst for knowledge.
