Darkness

Darkness is the absence of light. Humans have great difficulty seeing in partial darkness, though several other creatures do much better. It is entirely impossible to see in pure darkness, although some creatures, such as bats which have a "sonar" system, can still "see" in such a case.

Darkness is also used metaphorically in the Bible as separation from God and a place without hope.

Symbolically, darkness often represents evil.
