Deep Purple

Deep Purple are an English rock band established in Hertfordshire in 1968. Their most famous lineup (Mk II), which comprised Ian Gillan (vocals), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Ian Paice (drums; the band's only constant member), Jon Lord (organs) and Roger Glover (bass) is credited for being among the pioneers of heavy metal music in the early 1970s, alongside Black Sabbath. The original lineup in the late 1960s (Mk I) featured Rod Evans and Nick Simper on vocals and bass respectively, and had a more psychedelic rock sound.

The band was initially active, with various lineups, from 1968 to 1976 and, again with significant lineup changes, since 1984.
