Der Untergang

Der Untergang (English: The Downfall) is a 2004 German war drama film, depicting the final days of Adolf Hitler.

The film is based roughly on two books: Inside Hitler's Bunker by historian Joachim Fest, and Until the Final Hour by Traudl Junge, Hitler's former private secretary, as well as on other accounts of the period.

It is best known for one scene when Hitler (after learning that General Felix Steiner did not mount a counterattack on the Soviet Red Army due to being outnumbered, making the fall of Berlin -- and thus the Third Reich -- imminent) launches a tirade against his generals. The scene (along with others in the movie) has been parodied in many ways, leaving the German audio but changing the subtitles to reflect current setbacks in sports, politics, and all manner of popular culture.
