Drizzt Do'Urden
Drizzt Do'Urden is the main character in many of R. A. Salvatore's books. His early life is depicted in the Dark Elf Trilogy book Homeland. Drizzt is born on the eve of his family's brutal attack on another ruling house in Mezzoberranzan, the city of the drow. As Drizzt grows older, he realizes that he and his father, Zaknafein, are the only drow who care about others.
When Drizzt leaves the underdark, where all drow live, to go to the surface, he goes with a hunting party. The drow hold a vicous hate toward the surface elves that is bred in all dark elf childen. The drow attack a group of surface elves but Drizzt kills none, sparing an elf and hiding her under her mother's body. When Matron Malice, Drizzt's mother, discovers this, she sacrifices Zaknafein to appease the dark Goddess of all drow, the Spider Queen Lolth. Drizzt runs away and into the wilds of the underdark.
In the second book following Drizzt, Exile, he roams the underdark. Matron Malice still wants him dead after his escape from Mezzoberranzan and resurrects his father, Zaknafein, to kill him. Drizzt and Zaknafein go through a wild goose chase across the underdark, where Drizzt find's friends in unlikely places, to finally defeat Zaknafein.
The next book, Sojourn, is where Drizzt leaves the underdark to the surface and tries to find his place under the sun.
