Durham County Council

Durham County Council (DCC) is a unitary authority covering an area of north-eastern England. Despite containing "Durham County" in its name, Durham County Council not only excludes many of County Durham's most populous areas, such as Gateshead and Sunderland in the north east of the county, it also contains areas of northern Yorkshire.

For statistical purposes, Durham County Council's area makes up part of the North East England statistical region and has a population of 528,127. Together with the neighbouring council area of Darlington Borough Council, it makes up the areas of Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service and the territorial police force Durham Constabulary.
