EBSCO Industries Inc. is a privately held corporation with headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama. The company was founded by Elton B. Stephens in 1944 and the name is an acronym of Elton B Stephens COmpany.

EBSCO is ranked in the top 200 of the nation’s largest privately held corporations, based on revenues and number of employees, according to Forbes Magazine.[1]

Academic Search Premier is one of its major projects. It is a database of online articles in over 8000 journals. Access is through an academic or public library that has a subscription.

EBSCO has diversified into more than 40 businesses, including:[2]
