Ed Asner, born Yitzhak Edward Asner (born November 15, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri, died August 29, 2021), was an American actor, voice actor, and former president of the Screen Actor's Guild, and was well known for the role of Lou Grant on The Mary Tyler Moore Show as well as its spinoff Lou Grant.

He was also a massive leftist, being a card-carrying member of the Democratic Socialists of America, and also being involved in anti-War groups such as ANSWER and Not In Our Name, as well as the Free Mumia movement. He was also rather infamous for his lending his narration to the California Federation of Teachers propaganda video Tax the Rich: An Animated Fairy Tale, which as implied by the title utilized class warfare rhetoric and was obscenely anti-Capitalist. He also lent his support to the FSLN.
