The Ed Sullivan Show was perhaps the most popular and longest-running television show in history, lasting from 1948 to 1971. Many famous rock groups performed on it at the peak of their success, including the Beatles and the Creedence Clearwater Revival.[1]
Ed Sullivan
Ed Sullivan himself was a former newspaper reporter who was born in Harlem and had a modest family background.[2] His primary attraction was his likeability, despite rarely smiling into the camera.
His most famous line was his mundane introduction: "We have a really big show for you tonight."
He did have a knack for identifying rising talent, and giving them the opportunity on his widely watched show.
