Freethought Blogs

Freethought Blogs is an atheist/agnostic blogging community. It was founded by atheists Ed Brayton and PZ Myers.[1][2] Freethought blogs hosts several atheist/agnostic blogs including PZ Myers' blog Pharyngula.
Since 2012, the blogging website has been losing a significant amount of web traffic according to Quantcast which directly measures its web traffic.[3] See also: Decline of internet atheism

On January 1, 2016, the atheist Michael Nugent wrote:
“ | PZ’s FreeThought Blogs network eventually imploded last year, with Ophelia Benson leaving after being unjustly labelled a transphobe, and founder Ed Brayton leaving citing the health impact of the drama and stress of running the network. It is now losing traffic and revenue. The departing Ed and Ophelia had accounted for a third of the traffic, and PZ now accounted for 90% of the rest. Another FreeThought blogger, Jason Thibeault, predicted some of the network’s bloggers might now have lean months with zero income.[4] | ” |

In 2011, the atheist and evolutionist PZ Myers said that he had greater blog traffic than the Answers in Genesis website and that the Answers in Genesis (AIG) website had "pathetic" web traffic.[5] As of May of 2022, the Answers in Genesis website receives more web traffic than Freethought Blogs according to Similarweb.com.[6] According to Similarweb.com, the Answers in Genesis website is the 56,730th most popular website in the world.[7]
Web traffic of Freethought Blogs dramatically declines from June 2019 to September 2019

On June 23, 2019, Freethought Blogs was the 90,953th most popular website in the world according to Alexa, but by September 23, 2019 Freethought Blogs was merely the 170,112th most popular website in the world according to Alexa.

PZ Myers' commentary on the web traffic of AIG's ministry

In October 2014, the popular YouTube atheist Thunderf00t indicated that the bloggers at Freethoughtblog accidentally put him on their email list and that they spend a considerable amount of time emailing each other engaging in petty matters. In fact, he indicated that they spent more time emailing each other than engaged in actual blogging. He also questioned the impact of the bloggers of Freethought Blogs on social justice.[11] Furthermore, he indicated that their attempt to make him a pariah within the atheist community had virtually no impact.[12]

Alexa is a web traffic tracking company. In 2015 and 2016, Freethought Blogs saw a large decrease in its Alexa ranking.
