Gagauzia

Gagauzia, or Gagauz Yeri, officially the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia (Gagauzia). (Avtonom Territorial Bölümlüü Gagauziya, Romanian: Unitatea Teritorială Autonomă Găgăuzia) is an autonomous territorial unit within the Republic of Moldova. It was created on December 23, 1994 from localities in which more than 50% of the inhabitants were Gagauz citizens, as well as from those where the majority of residents voluntarily agreed to join the Gagauz autonomy as a result of referendums. The capital of Gagauzia is the city of Comrat.
