The Gang of Four was a leftist faction of Chinese Communist Party officials led by Jiang Qing, Mao Zedong's last wife, which dominated Chinese political life in early 1970s. Its members were Jiang Qing, Zhang Chunqiao, Yao Wenyuan and Wang Hongwen. Following Mao's death in 1976, the four were arrested and were put on trial in 1980-81.
