Giorgio Napolitano (Naples, June 29, 1925 – September 22, 2023) was, from May 15, 2006, to January 14, 2015, the eleventh President of Italy. Napolitano was a member of the Italian Communist Party, but he also criticized the Soviet Union. For example, he opposed Soviet war in Afghanistan.
