Gnassingbé Eyadéma

Gnassingbé Eyadéma (December 26, 1935 – February 5, 2005) was the president of Togo from 1967 to 2005. He was an Anticommunist and had good relationsships to France. He came in power by overthrowing Sylvanus Olympio, the former president. Eyadéma founded his own political party that was called Rassemblement du peuple togolais, that was dissolved in 2012. He was reelected in 1998 and 2003 and ruled until his death, in 2005. He was the longest-serving ruler of Africa.[1]
