Mykola Hohol

Nikolai Gogol (1809-1852) was a Ukrainian author who wrote in the Russian language. He was born in the village of Sorochyntsi, Ukraine. His works were heavily influenced by his Ukrainian heritage. His most famous works are Dead Souls (which criticized the Tsar), "The Overcoat", and his depiction of the Ukrainian Kozaks in Taras Bulba. He is recognized as one of the greatest Russian authors, even though he was not Russian.
