Nazi official murdered on Hitler's orders

Gregor Strasser (May 31, 1892 – June 30, 1934) was a Nazi official until he was murdered by Hitler's orders during the Night of the Long Knives.

Career

Strasser was noted for being perhaps the most left-wing in economics and favored better ties with the Soviet Union. Gregor Strasser is also a rare case of a socialist being Christian. His brother, Otto Strasser, who escaped being executed, said "We are Christians; without Christianity Europe is lost. Hitler is an atheist."[1]

Gregor Strasser is also known for this infamous quote that has been misattributed to Hitler: “We are socialists. We are enemies, deadly enemies, of today’s capitalist economic system with its exploitation of the economically weak, its unfair wage system, its immoral way of judging the worth of human beings in terms of their wealth and their money, instead of their responsibility and their performance, and we are determined to destroy this system whatever happens!” [2]
