Hugo Banzer

Hugo Banzer Suárez (1926-2002) was the president of Bolivia from 1971 to 1978 and again from 1997 to 2002. He took power after Juan José Torres, the Socialist dictator of Bolivia was overthrown. In 1978 it came to an election, that Banzer had lost. Banzer again competed in the elections of 1997 and promised to fight Corruption and Drug trafficking.[1] He won the elections, but died due to lung cancer in 2002.
