Jason Wentworth

Jason Wentworth (born September 23, 1982) is an American politician and member of the Republican Party who served as the 107th Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives from 2021 to 2022. He represented Michigan's 97th House District, which includes portions of Clare, Gladwin, Arenac, and Osceola counties. Wentworth is a veteran of the United States Army and has worked in public service and veteran advocacy.

Early Life and Education

Jason Wentworth was born in Clare, Michigan. He graduated from Harrison High School in 2000 and enlisted in the United States Army, serving as a military police officer. After his military service, Wentworth pursued higher education, earning an associate degree from Mid Michigan College and a bachelor’s degree in public safety administration from Sienna Heights University.

Career

Wentworth worked in law enforcement and later in veteran services, including as a regional coordinator for the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency. His work focused on improving access to healthcare, benefits, and job opportunities for veterans across the state. He also served as a legislative aide before running for office.

Political Career

Wentworth was first elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2016 to represent the 97th District. He was re-elected in 2018 and 2020. During his tenure in the Michigan House, he served on several committees, including the Military, Veterans and Homeland Security Committee, where he advocated for veterans and first responders.

In 2021, Wentworth was elected Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives, succeeding Lee Chatfield. As Speaker, he focused on economic development, tax reform, and improving government efficiency. Wentworth was term-limited in 2022, concluding his service in the Michigan House.
