Jayne Mansfield (April 19, 1933 – June 29, 1967) was an American actress. She was promoted as Warner Brothers' version of actress Marilyn Monroe. Mansfield's daughter with Mickey Hargitay is Mariska Hargitay, who is also an actress. Mansfield's real name was Vera Jayne Palmer.

On June 29, 1967, Mansfield, her lawyer Sam Brody, her driver Ronnie Harrison and Mansfield's three children, Miklós, Zoltán, and Mariska, left Biloxi, Mississippi for New Orleans. Around 2:25 a.m., near the Rigolets Bridge east of New Orleans, the car plowed into the back of a tractor-trailer (which it could not see as a mosquito truck, ahead of the trailer, was spraying and caused a dense fog) and slid underneath the trailer. The three adults in the front seat were killed instantly. The children survived with minor injuries. As a result of the accident, tractor-trailers are now equipped with bars to prevent a similar accident; the bars are called Mansfield bars.

Contrary to the urban legend, Mansfield was not decapitated in the accident.
