Jim Bowie, one of the defenders of the Alamo

James "Jim" Bowie (April 10, 1796 – March 6, 1836) was a 19th century American frontiersman. He was technically a Texan-Mexican-American since, at the time of his death, Texas was still an independent Republic, and though being born in Kentucky, he was officially American; he was proud to say he was Texan. Bowie was also a Mexican citizen by marriage.

He is famous for his role in the Texas War of Independence, and also recognized for his invention of the Bowie knife.
