James Conley "Jim" Justice II (born April 27, 1951) is the junior Senator of West Virginia, and formerly Governor who succeeded Earl Ray Tomblin. Jim Justice is a billionaire businessman who is the richest man in the state of West Virginia (and in the Senate), having numerous interests in coal; his most notable interest is The Greenbriar, a historic and popular resort.
Justice, originally a member of the Republican Party, became a Democrat ahead of the 2016 gubernatorial election, but he switched back to the Republicans in 2017.[1] In 2024, he succeeded the outgoing Senator Joe Manchin, flipping the seat from the Democrats to the Republicans.
In addition to his business and political interests, he has been the girls basketball coach at Greenbrier East High School in Lewisburg since 2003, having won the state championship in 2012; he continued to coach after becoming Governor and has maintained his coaching duties into his Senatorial run.[2] He also coached the boys team for several years as well.
He is frequently accompanied by his dog, Babydog, an English bulldog who is popular in her own right.
Justice was a supporter of the $1.9 trillion so-called American Rescue Plan.[3]
