John Ericsson

John Ericsson (1803-1889) was a Swedish-American inventor and engineer. During the Civil War, he designed and built the Monitor, America's first ironclad vessel. He was born in Sweden in 1803. In 1839, he immigrated to the United States to work on his idea of screw propellers. He is credited with creating almost 2,000 inventions in his lifetime.
