John Marrant

John Marrant (June 15, 1755 - April 15, 1791) was a free-born Black preacher, and was the first African American to evangelize successfully among American Indians.[1]
Marrant was born in New York City and was a practicing Methodist.[2] He converted to Methodism as a teenager after hearing the preaching of George Whitefield.[3]
