A kickback is a form of bribery or extortion where a certain portion of the proceeds of a contract or grant is "kicked back" to the person awarding the contract or grant. For example, when a member of Congress votes for unnecessary or wasteful defense spending, and the defense contractor then kickbacks funds from a portion of the contract in the form of campaign donations to the member of Congress.
