It was formed from the merger of two mid-major contractors: L3 and Harris.
Uniquely, neither company (either pre-merger or post-merger) has chosen to establish its headquarters in the Washington, DC area: L3 was headquartered in New York City while Harris was headquartered in Melbourne, Florida; the post-merger company chose to remain in Melbourne.
