Linda Lingle was the sixth Governor of Hawaii. A Republican, she was first elected in 2002 and re-elected in 2006. She made history as the first female governor of the Aloha State.

In October 2011, Lingle announced her candidacy for the seat of retiring Senator Daniel Akaka. She was defeated by Democratic candidate Mazie Hirono in the 2012 election.
