Logan's Run is a 1976 science fiction film, based on a 1967 book of the same name (though the movie only uses two basic premises of the book: that everyone must die at a predetermined age and that the protagonist and his partner are chased by a fellow Sandman named Francis).

The film features a futuristic domed city where humans are given all manner of pleasure, but in exchange are killed at age 30 via the Carrousel, which promises (but does not deliver) a promise of rebirth. To track their aging all humans are given a life-clock which starts blinking upon nearing age 30. Those who attempt to escape Carrousel are called Runners and are tracked down by Sandmen, an elite police force working for Deep Sleep.

One Sandman, Logan 5, is tasked by the Computer to take down a mythical place called Sanctuary where Runners are purported to be able to live beyond 30. He meets with Jessica and escapes the city (followed by Francis, a fellow Sandman tasked to kill them, who is in time killed by Logan). He ultimately meets an old man outside the city who tells of life outside it; Logan realizes that Sanctuary is a myth. He and Jessica ultimately return to the city to persuade others that Carrousel is a myth. Captured by other Sandmen Logan and Jessica are taken to the computer who interrogates Logan about his mission; Logan replies "there is no Sanctuary" and the Computer ultimately overloads, ending the domes. Citizens finally learn that life beyond 30 can exist.

Though the movie had difficulty being placed into production, ultimately it won a Special Academy Award for its visual effects, and led to a short-lived (14 episode) television show of the same name which was broadcast on the CBS network from September 1977 through February 1978 before cancellation.
