Lucky Drop
Operation "Lucky Drop" was a limited Israeli military operation conducted between 28 August and 1 September 2025 in response to drone and missile attacks launched by the Islamofascistic Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen. The operation involved successful aerial interceptions and precision airstrikes by the Israeli Air Force, resulting in the elimination of senior Houthi leaders and the disruption of Houthi command and control capabilities.

Background
The Houthis, or Ansar Allah, are a Yemeni insurgent group heavily supported, directed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Since 2023, the group has increased its attacks on Israeli interests, including the targeting of Israeli territory and commercial vessels in the Red Sea.[1]
Events
28 August 2025 – Drone Interceptions and Airstrikes
On 28 August at 12:27, air raid sirens were triggered in the Bani Netzarim region, near Israel's border with Egypt, after a drone was launched from Yemen. The drone was intercepted by Israeli air defenses.[2]
At 14:03, a second drone targeted the Bani Netzarim and Nawa settlements. It too was successfully intercepted. No injuries or damage were reported in either incident.[2]
Later that day, the Israeli Air Force launched at least ten precision airstrikes in Sana'a, Yemen, targeting high-ranking Houthi officials. The strikes coincided with a speech by the Houthi leadership. According to reports, several key figures, including Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb al-Rahawi and Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf, were killed.[3]
The airstrikes were widely described as a targeted decapitation of the Houthi command structure, conducted with minimal collateral damage.[4]
1 September 2025 – Houthi Retaliation Attempts
In response to the Israeli strikes, the Houthis launched a limited attack involving 3 to 5 drones and several ballistic missiles. According to Israeli and international sources, all incoming projectiles were intercepted or failed to reach Israeli targets.[3]
Later the same day, the Houthis attempted to strike the Israeli-owned oil tanker Scarlet Ray in the Red Sea. The missile missed its target, and the ship sustained no damage and continued its route.[5][6]
Aftermath
The operation significantly disrupted the Houthi chain of command and marked a strategic victory for Israel. The Israeli government reminded that its actions were conducted in self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.[1]
Defense analysts described the operation as a demonstration of Israel's intelligence precision and deterrence capability against Iranian-aligned threats in the region.
