A market economy is an economic system in which the prices and quantities for goods and services, and the transactions for buying and selling these items, are decided by the free interaction of supply and demand. Increasing government regulation makes pure market economies increasingly rare, but in some areas, such as eBay or commodities exchanges, the market approaches a pure market economy.
