Mojtaba Khamenei
Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei (born 8 September 1969) Newly hastily appointed supreme leader and Commander-in-Chief of Iran, he was chosen by the IRGC after his father Ali Khamenei was successfully eliminated during Operation Roaring Lion / Operation Epic Fury on 28 February 2026.
He is widely described by analysts, human rights groups, and activists as a central figure in the Iranian regime's security and political apparatus, particularly in directing the repression of domestic dissent, atrocities. While operating largely behind the scenes[1] for decades, he is heavily implicated in the violent crackdowns on popular uprisings, including crushing Mahsa Amini protests in 2022 and in the horrific 2026 Iran massacres of tens of thousands.
He is known as more radical than his father. He was a real leader of brutal Basij.[2]

In addition to his father Ali Khamenei being eliminated in the airstrike on February 28, 2026, his mother, wife, and one son were also killed.
Mojtaba Khamenei volunteered for the Iranian military at the age of 17 to fight the US-backed army of Saddam Hussein in the Iran-Iraq war.
