Newport, IoW

Newport is the county town of the Isle of Wight, located on the River Medina at the centre of the island. King Charles I was imprisoned at Carisbrooke Castle, on the outskirts of the town, between November 1647 and September 1684, and twice made unsuccessful escape attempts.[1]
