November Rain
November Rain is a spectacularly popular song by the band Guns N' Roses based on a short story “Without You,” written by Del James, as published in “The Language of Fear,” concerning a rock star in grief about the death by suicide of his girlfriend.[1]
It was released as a single in 1992, from the album Use Your Illusion I (1991).
The YouTube video for this song is one of the most religious of all rock music, and has garnered in excess of two billion views as of April 2024. It is one of the most-watched music videos in English, invoking many powerful religious images of a Crucifix, a rural church (a prop built for the video), a beautiful wedding,[2] and a burial.
Written by lead vocalist Axl Rose, this is one of the longest songs to reach the top ten on the Billboard charts. Its terrific lyrics include:
I could rest my head
Just knowin' that you were mine
All mine
So if you want to love me
Then darlin' don't refrain
Or I'll just end up walkin'
In the cold November rain[3]
