Ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny or Recapitulation theory is a theory proposed by the 19th century evolutionist Ernst Haeckel.

The theory proposes that the embryological development of an organism mirrors the evolutionary history of its species. The theory has long since been disproven, as with countless attempts to make evolution stick.
