"Original intent" or "originalist" is an interpretation of the U.S. Constitution that emphasizes how its Framers would have interpreted it at the time.
Sources of this original intent include the Framers' statements during the Constitutional Convention, to the extent preserved in the notes of James Madison, as well as the Federalist Papers and other statements by Framers.
